Prenatal yoga

A pregnant body is not an injured one. It is a body doing something enormous, and it changes every week. Prenatal yoga is not regular yoga made softer — it is a different practice, built around what you are carrying.

We work on breath, on the hips and the back that carry the weight, on the pelvic floor that will do the work, and on the calm that gets you through the nights. In a small group, live, with your camera on, so I can see you.

Taught in Hindi.

Who it is for

  • Second and third trimester, from about week 12
  • First pregnancy or fifth
  • Complete beginners to yoga
  • Anyone whose doctor has no objection

Talk to your doctor first, and then to me, if any of these apply:

  • Bleeding or fluid loss at any point in this pregnancy
  • Placenta previa, pre-eclampsia, or a cervix your doctor is watching
  • Twins or more
  • A doctor’s advice to rest or limit activity

None of these is a no. They are a reason for a short conversation with me before you join the batch.

What we work on

Second trimester

Weeks 13 to 27. Energy returns. We build.

  • Strength in the legs and back for the weight to come
  • Hip mobility, with support, never forced
  • Side-lying and supported postures as lying flat gets uncomfortable
  • Breath you can use — slow, long, unhurried
  • Pelvic floor awareness: finding it, then learning to release it

Third trimester

Week 28 to birth. Space and preparation.

  • Positions that make room: supported squats, all-fours, leaning forward
  • Breathing for labour, practised often enough that it comes without thinking
  • Releasing the pelvic floor, not only strengthening it
  • Relief for the lower back, the ribs, the swollen feet
  • Rest. Real rest, taught as a skill

One class

60 minutes, drawn to scale.

  1. 5 min Arrive, check in
  2. 5 min Breath
  3. 10 min Warm-up
  4. 25 min Practice
  5. 5 min Pelvic floor
  6. 10 min Rest

Thirty seconds of a real class.

One continuous phone clip from the back of the room, sound on, no music, no cuts. Add a still from it as the poster.

Safety

What we do not do:

  • Deep twists and deep backbends
  • Lying on the belly, or flat on the back for long in the later months
  • Holding the breath
  • Strong abdominal work
  • Overstretching — pregnancy loosens the joints, and it will not feel like too much until it is
  • Heat, and any room you cannot leave

Stop, and call your doctor, if you notice:

  • Bleeding or fluid leaking
  • Dizziness, chest pain, or a headache that does not pass
  • Contractions, or pain in the belly
  • The baby moving less than usual
  • Pain or swelling in one calf

A yoga class is not medical advice. Your doctor’s word comes first, every time.

Questions

Do I need my doctor’s permission?

Yes. Before your first class, tell your doctor you are joining prenatal yoga and confirm they have no objection. I will ask you to confirm this when you join. No letter, no form — your word is enough.

I have never done yoga. Is that a problem?

No. Most women in a prenatal batch are new to yoga. Everything is taught from the beginning, and every posture has an easier version.

When can I start?

The group batch is for the second and third trimester — from about week 12 onwards, with your doctor’s go-ahead. In the first trimester, rest, and message me nearer week 12.

How does an online class work?

We meet on Zoom, live, at a fixed time in IST, India’s clock. Your camera stays on so I can see how you are moving and correct you. It is a class, not a video.

How many classes a week?

Three a week, an hour each, with a rest day between. There is a morning batch and an evening one; pick the one you can keep, and stay with it so I see the same faces.

Is the first class really free?

Yes. Come to one class, see how I teach and how the group feels, and decide after. Nothing is paid before that.

What if I miss a class?

Message me on WhatsApp. We will work out what makes sense for that week.

How do I pay?

Monthly, in advance. UPI in India. Other countries are arranged when you join.

Come to one class. Decide after.

The first one is free, and nobody follows up if you do not come back.
